Insipid and superficial French biopic about the author Françoise Sagan that feels longer than its two-hour running time and does not register emotionally until the end. Instead of focusing on and fleshing out a few of the episodes in Sagan’s life, the film hurriedly covers so many of them that the story does not flow well and is sometimes difficult to follow; the original 180-minute miniseries probably fares better in that respect. Convincing age makeup. The time periods are nicely captured. Sylvie Testud gives a lively, dedicated lead performance; Pierre Palmade is noteworthy as Jacques Chazot, one of Sagan’s close friends. Directed by Diane Kurys.
