Sunshine is an intelligent, slickly made psychological science-fiction film with wonderful visuals and a claustrophobic atmosphere. The first two thirds are deliberately paced, giving this Danny Boyle–directed film an almost hypnotic quality, but the last third is different in tone and is the movie’s weakest part. There is more actual science in the film than the viewer might think, and one thing I thought was incorrect turned out to be scientifically sound. Unremarkable but adequate performances by the cast, which includes Cillian Murphy, Cliff Curtis, Michelle Yeoh, Rose Byrne, and Chris Evans. Interestingly, the final scene was filmed in Stockholm, Sweden (the Sydney Opera House was digitally added).
