How the story develops is largely predictable, but the charming details, the rural atmosphere, and very good acting make this an entertaining and life-affirming movie, despite the tragic ingredients.
The opening scene ends in an unexpected way and the camera does not leave anything to the imagination. Early in the movie, there is a slow-motion scene of a car accident that is memorable because it is shot in a way that makes it almost beautiful. Even though it does not come as a complete surprise, the ending is a bit disturbing and provocative, but it does provide appropriate closure.
Emma’s Bliss is enjoyable, while also raising questions about life and death, love, and morality.
