Hard Candy (2005)

After a slow-paced opening, the film abruptly shifts in tone and increases in intensity as the story takes an unexpected turn. Ellen Page is superb and Patrick Wilson gives a strong performance. Some of the story details may not stand up to scrutiny, but Hard Candy is a captivating, disturbing, and unpredictable film that is very effective at getting under the viewer's skin.
