Young Adam (2003)

This is a slow-paced but never boring film that works on two levels: as a character study and as a mystery concerning the death of a young woman found floating in the water. Ewan McGregor and Tilda Swinton give solid, nuanced performances. Young Adam features flashback-based storytelling, sex scenes and nudity, and noteworthy cinematography; the film is permeated by a moody atmosphere.
