Yesterday I saw Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. It is a great movie, but it is quite dark and the colors and to some extent the environment are different from the two previous movies. Also, I think the movie is too short. Even though nothing major that I remember from the book is missing, the movie seems a bit rushed. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is, nevertheless, a movie worth seeing.
I wonder if there have been any discussions concerning releasing extended versions of the Harry Potter movies, as has been done with The Lord of the Rings. Since I think the third Harry Potter movie is rushed, I can’t help but wonder what the next two movies will be like considering that the fourth book is bigger than the third and the fifth book is bigger than the fourth.
I don’t think splitting up one book into two movies is a viable option, so my suggestion would be to include as much as possible from the books in the movies, trim them down for the theatrical release, and then release the full movies on DVD. I believe that doing so would not have much of an impact on how many people go and see the movies at the theaters; they would most likely want to see the movies as soon as possible even with the knowledge that extended versions would be released later. I know I would.
